Orest Poliszczuk was born in Lviv, Ukraine in January of 1942. Prior to the complete Communist takeover of Ukraine in 1944, Orest with his family escaped to Germany where they resided in various displaced persons camps for Eastern European refugees. In 1949, his family emigrated to the United States and took up permanent residence in Baltimore, MD.
Orest earned his B.A. degree and MFA with a concentration in sculpture from the University of Maryland in 1966 and 1968 respectively; he started teaching at Montgomery College in Rockville, MD in 1969 and retired 43 years later as Professor Emeritus. Throughout his career as an educator, he exhibited extensively in the United States and Canada in both group and one-man shows.
Now retired, Orest is happy to work the day away in his at-home studio, creating master works of art representing his beloved Ukraine.
